It’s been approximately 11 years since Dean first showed up at Sam’s dorm room and convinced him to get back into the family business, at least temporarily. (The real credit for getting Sam back on the road goes to the yellow-eyed demon for killing Sam’s girlfriend.) Regardless, from that moment on, it’s been Sam and Dean against the world — or rather, Sam and Dean saving the world… over and over and over again.
