I wasn't that big a fan of Supernatural, the WB thriller that begins its second season on Sept. 28. But I came to appreciate it more while watching its Complete First Season DVD (Warner, 22 episodes, six discs, $59.98).

The tales of two brothers (Jensen Ackles, Jared Padelecki) fighting supernatural evil work well on DVD; the often-in-the-dark scenes are a little easier to see (although that also makes the blood more visible). The momentum builds without commercials and with episodes ready one after the other.

DVD extras are a couple of commentaries, a blooper reel and two featurettes, one on the making of the show and the other with Ackles and Padelecki going through a typical day — and joking around a lot.
