BuddyTV’s 100 Best Episodes of 2008 (Update: January 13)

January 8, 2009

BuddyTV are counting down their 100 Best Episodes of Television for 2008:

#86 “Ghostfacers,” Supernatural

Supernatural took time out from the countdown to Dean’s death to air this very funny pilot for a new ghost-hunting reality show called “Ghostfacers.” The result was a clever mix of comedy and horror that served as a perfect break from the otherwise dire circumstances of the Winchesters.

61 “Heaven and Hell,” Supernatural

Jensen Ackles gave a tour-de-force performance in Supernatural’s final episode of 2008 as the angels and demons did battle. Dean played them against one another, had sex with an angel in the backseat of the Impala, and gave a tearful confession about his time in Hell to his brother.

#60 “Monster Movie,” Supernatural

This special black-and-white episode served as an homage to old-fashioned horror films, with a very clever and funny performance by Todd Stashwick as Dracula, who asks the pizza delivery boy if there is any garlic on his pizza. That scene alone merits putting this episode on the list.

The Futon Critic’s 50 Best Episodes of 2008

January 8, 2009

The Futon Critic are counting down their 50 Best Episodes of 2008, placing "Ghostfacers," "Monster Movie" and "Wishful Thinking" at #28, #27 and #26, respectively:

From The Futon Critic: "It's probably not a coincidence that our three favorite episodes of "Supernatural" came from the same dude: Ben Edlund. These episodes featured everything from a suicidal teddy bear, Dracula using a coupon to pay for his pizza and unrequited gay love from beyond the grave. Said events ranged from downright silly to unexpectedly dramatic and gave the show a decidedly unique voice. Sure the main draw of "Supernatural" is two guys, a Chevy Impala and a trunk full of weapons fighting the things that go bump in the night, but darn if Edlund's installments don't take us on their own quirky path."
