EW has an exclusive first look at the backdoor pilot for Wayward Sisters, which follows Claire’s (Kathryn Love Newton) return home to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Jody (Kim Rhodes) and Alex (Katherine Ramdeen) are waiting. Add in Donna (Brianna Buckmaster), Patience (Clark Backo), and new girl Kaia (Yadira Guevara-Prip), and you’ve got the makings of a monster-fighting force. The backdoor pilot is set to air on Thursday, Jan. 18 on The CW.
Jody Mills’ family of Wayward Sisters is growing.
The potential Supernatural spinoff has added Kathryn Newton (as Claire Novak), Katherine Ramdeen (Alex Jones) and Briana Buckmaster (Sheriff Donna Hanscum) to its cast. The trio will join Kim Rhodes (as Sheriff Jody Mills) in a backdoor pilot airing as a Season 13 episode of the long-running CW series.
Kim Rhodes is set to star in “Wayward Sisters,” a possible new drama series from Warner Bros. Television that could spinoff from a planned episode in the upcoming 13th season of “Supernatural.” The series would tell the story of Rhodes’ character Sheriff Jody Mills and a group of troubled young women, all of them orphaned by supernatural tragedy. Under Mills’ training and protection, these women will emerge as a supreme monster-fighting force. Other characters from “Supernatural” would also migrate to the new series.
“In addition, the network has decided to axe a project before it even gets out of the gate: the Supernatural spin-off, originally titled ‘Tribes’ and then called ‘Bloodlines is also dead. There didn’t seem to be a good reaction to the spin-off, which — if you’re a fan of the original Supernatural — didn’t have much in common with the mother series, despite being introduced during episode 9.20 as a back-door pilot.”
“After months of waiting, Supernatural is finally giving fans their first taste of the CW’s planned spinoff Supernatural: Bloodlines, which focused on the various mafia-esque monster families that run the underbelly of Chicago.”
“Ever since the words Supernatural Spinoff were uttered a few months ago, the fandom for The CW smash has been buzzing for any kind of scoop, news or information about the episode that will serve as a backdoor pilot for the intriguing new series.”
“Supernatural scribe Andrew Dabb penned the Bloodlines episode and talked with TV Fanatic about what we can expect ; why Chicago was the perfect setting; how much we might see Sam and Dean moving forward; and this being The CW, just how sexy the spinoff will be.”
Viewers of The CW’s “Supernatural” will be introduced to a new cast of characters and new setting in the April 29 episode of the monster-hunting series. And if the network likes what it sees, these characters (including rival mob families made up of monsters) and the setting (Chicago) will return for a spinoff called “Supernatural: Bloodlines.”
The episode — known in Hollywood as a backdoor pilot — has been filming in Vancouver. That’s where “Supernatural” films. But it will shoot exterior scenes in Chicago Tuesday through Thursday, according to “Bloodlines” writer and executive producer Andrew Dabb. It has yet to be decided if “Bloodlines” would split time between the two cities (similar to what Showtime’s “Shameless” does) should it get picked up.
