CollegeBound Teen's interview with Jared Padalecki.

Mystery 101:
Sleuthing for Prime-Time Smarts

Two of the hottest shows on TV right now, "Supernatural" and "Reunion," also showcase two of TV's hottest stars — Jared Padalecki and Will Estes. But more suspenseful than plot twists is whether or not these boys are prime-time proof that looks and smarts can coexist.

CB Teen: If you weren't acting, what would you do?
Jared: I'd love to be teaching. I've had a lot of teachers who mentored me in my development as a person. I'd like to get a chance to go out there and share the knowledge I have.

CB Teen: Who was your biggest mentor in school?
Jared: My drama coach: He was incredible. He was passionate and gave me a lot of self-confidence. He helped me become a man in those weird 14-17 years [of age] where you're not really sure [what's] up, down, left, or right.

CB Teen: I understand education is something that runs in the family.
Jared: I have a "math" father [he's an accountant] and a teacher- mother.

CB Teen: Why do you think you've been successful?
Jared: I've had a lot of great luck and people behind me. "Gilmore Girls" took me from a guy who had never done anything and started developing me. They gave me a lot to do and more to test and push myself with.

CB Teen: Your new show deals with the paranormal. What scares you?
Jared: The unknown. It's as general an answer as you can get, but [I'm afraid of] the unknown … You have a grasp on your life, your thoughts, and your beliefs. When something puts that into a tailspin and lets you know that what you expect to be isn't actually the way things are, it's hard for your mind to grasp and wrap around the concept.
