The network is letting folks know now — two weeks in advance — that the premiere of its buzzworthy new series "Supernatural" will bleed over its one-hour allotment. The debut episode, which airs at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday, Sept. 13, will end at 10:07 p.m.
The "Supernatural" pilot runs just over 46 minutes, and that's without opening or closing credits. Hour-long shows typically are between 42 and 44 minutes long without commercials. Rather than cut a few minutes out of the pilot, The WB decided instead simply to let the show run long.
And it's making sure people know that ahead of time. In May, viewers who were recording the season finale of "Gilmore Girls" were unaware that the show ran about 30 seconds past its normal 9 p.m. ending time. TiVos and VCRs set to click off precisely at 9, then, missed the crucial final scene in which Lorelai (Lauren Graham) proposes to Luke (Scott Patterson).
The WB was flooded with complaints, and the network acknowledged its gaffe by re-airing the episode a few days later.
"Supernatural" stars "Gilmore" alum Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles ("Smallville") as brothers who hit the road in search of strange occurrences — and of their father, who disappears while hunting down one such phenomenon.
