After a disappointing effort in the previous episode, the writers brings things back on track with this surprising installment. As one would expect, this is the period in the season arc when the introductory elements give way to serious complications and transitions. Better yet, while significant time is spent on Gordon’s psychology over the course of the episode, the focus is centered on the Brothers Winchester again.

From TVGuide.com: "At 21.29 mil, CSI was down 600K from last week's crossover. Grey's placed second with 19.28 mil, but was No. 1 in demos. The Office (8.86 mil) saw a 570 thou increase, while Scrubs (6 mil) dropped 320K. Supernatural (2.89 mil) was down a hair."

This is the kind of episode that reveals the importance of a solid director and editing crew. ‘Supernatural” has a specific brand of storytelling, after all, and if the final product doesn’t quite fit into the mold, it’s going to be obvious. Several moments in this episode feel like they should be working, but in the end, they don’t quite come together. This serves to expose problems in the writing and guest cast.
